How we lay natural stone driveways and floors
Our resin-bound gravel or shingle surface can be laid straight onto a scruffy concrete or dull tarmac drive. While our eco-surface, called Easylay, goes onto your new driveway foundation.
Resin-bound surface treatment
Top coat one-part system:
1. First we clean your concrete or tarmac drive with a pressure washer.
2. We repairs minor cracks and remove any loose material.
3. In a forced-action mixer, we bind together your real stone aggregate with a UV-stable high-grade resin liquid. This is poured onto the area to be surfaced.
4. We then hand trowel the stone aggregate onto your drive or path to give a smooth finish. We lay the surface to a depth of 15 mm.
Laying an eco-friendly driveway with Easylay
- Easylay is a two-part system:
- rubber base made of crumbed recycled tyre
-
top coat made of resin-bound surface treatment [as above]
1. First we lay the crumbed re-cycled rubber mixture onto your new hardcore or scalpings drive foundation. We leave this to dry, which takes about 2 - 3 hours
2. We then mix and apply the top coat resin-bound aggregate mixture to the rubber surface.
The advantage of the resin-bound surface treatment is that it can be laid on to an existing tarmac or concrete drive
The advantage of Easylay is that it does not require a concrete or tarmac base.
Will my damp proof course be affected?
As the overlaid surface is only 15mm thick it will not affect your dpc and we can grind out and adjust the levels of your existing drive to sit below the dpc level. We can also chamfer an area to go under a garage door or gate.
How we work
Here are the 6 steps we take to plan, manage and complete your project.
1. Site assessment, consultation and quote
We will visit your home, discuss what you need, and to measure the area to be surfaced.
You'll be able to choose which natural stone colours and finishes you want from the large sample boards we'll bring with us.
- From this, we'll prepare a comprehensive written quotation in your home. This will specify:
- the price
- what works we will carry out
- which materials we will use
- If you decide to go ahead on the spot, we can :
- give you a contract to sign
- take a 30% deposit cheque
- agree a start date
- order materials.
- If your driveway requires groundwork before we can resurface it, we will :
- produce a CAD drawing from the measurements taken
- send you a written quote outlining the schedule of work and costs involved.
- Conduct a pre-installation survey which includes a risk assessment and site review.
In all cases we take a 30% deposit.
2. Project plan
- Once you accept our quote, and have paid a deposit, we will:
- Book in a suitable date to do the work and confirm access arrangements.
- Confirm and order materials.
3. Starting work: excavation
We may need to excavate the earth, for instance if you want us to inset new recess drain covers or acco drains.
If new ground work is require, we will bring in our diggers to prepare the ground so we can level it and install the foundation.
We will always try to minimise the disruption and inconvenience throughout the installation.
4. Pouring the resin-bound mixture
At this point, we like to run through the installation details with you and reconfirm the points of design. This ensures we've got everything doubly clear before we pour the mixture.
On the day we pour the mixture, will fill in a project day-sheet of the prevailing weather conditions for our records.
We pour and hand-trowel down the prepared mixture.
5. Drying time
The resin generally takes 4 - 12 hours to dry, depending on the air temperature, so there will be a wait before you can walk on it and up to 12- 24 hours before you can drive on it.
6. Looking after your new surface
You can safely clean your new surface with a power-washer but you do need to be careful.
Our Aftercare Sheet details how you should look after your new surface.
Do make sure you read this aftercare advice. Because our guarantee is only valid if you have looked after your new resin-bound surface properly.
